America has become morally bankrupt

While I am not the least bit surprised that Trump dictated his medical report which his doctor then signed, I am now more convinced than ever that America has become morally bankrupt. When I was applying to college in the 70s, I had to have two people provide references. It was a popular Southern Baptist school in my state, and I guess they wanted to make sure I was an appropriate student for their dogma. The letters had to be mailed by the writer of said letters. At the end of my application process, I had to sign a document that stated everything I had submitted was true. If it were to be found out that I had lied, I would be subject to dismissal. We were expected to be truthful and honorable in how we presented ourselves. I guess we expected more from our university students in the seventies than we expect from our president today. How sad. Here's 4 reasons why Donald Trump faking a doctor's note actually matters. Dr. Harold Bornstein needs to tell...

THE RESISTANCE

I listened as they called my President a Muslim. I listened as they called him and his family a pack of monkeys. I listened as they said he wasn't born here. I watched as they blocked every single path to progress that they could. I saw the pictures of him as Hitler. I watched them shut down the government and hurt the entire nation twice. I watched them turn their backs on every opportunity to open worthwhile dialog. I watched them say that they would not even listen to any choice for Supreme Court no matter who the nominee was. I listened as they openly said that they will oppose him at every turn. I watched as they did just that. I listened.  I watched. I paid attention. Now, I'm being called on to be tolerant. To move forward. To denounce protesters. To "Get over it." To accept this... I will not. I will do my part to make sure this great American mistake becomes the embarrassing footnote of our history that it deserves to b...

Trump is Our President

Even though the majority of voters cast their vote for Hillary Clinton, our laws are such that Donald Trump won the election. Donald Trump is our president. It's true. There is no need to go around saying "he's not my president." That statement is a lie. Technically, legally, and literally speaking - Trump is our president. I felt this same frustration when people said that Obama was not their president. It's a childish rant. It means nothing. What we need to do now is change the way things are done so that this never happens again. One person should equal one vote. This garbage about a state having more power is not logical. Within a state, the people are still divided between the candidates, so how can a state decide an election? It's time to use our critical thinking skills and have a true election where every voter's ballot counts.

The Trump Cabinet - least educated cabinet

The Trump cabinet is going to be the least educated cabinet in recent history. Shaun King wrote an excellent article regarding the lack of education and the stark difference between what black people expect and what rich white people expect to achieve, especially in regards to White House appointments. The article was written last month. I am shocked - finding it hard to believe that the citizenry of this country are okay with random rich people being appointed to our highest offices. While I am not concerned about the education and intellectual prowess of all cabinet members, those who serve in Education and Energy (just to name a few) need to be well educated and capable of learning even more - in order to serve this country well. Is this not even slightly disturbing to most Americans? Obama’s current Secretary of Education, John King Jr., has a B.A. from Harvard, a master’s degree and doctorate from Columbia, and a law degree from Yale on top of it all. He is one of t...

How the Rich and Famous are Voting

This election year has been one of the most interesting, and most controversial election years of my life. The politicians and their supporters are confused, angry, and sometimes downright ignorant. The lies and accusations are tossed around easier than a salad. This political circus has served to inspire many questions for me, not all of which serve a great purpose - such as this one. Then again, it wasn't that long ago that a movie star was elected president. How are the rich and famous voting? I found endless resources for celebrity supporters of Hillary, but those supporting Trump are apparently not as vocal about their choice. I'm With Her (Hillary Clinton) Music Industry Katy Perry Elton John Pharrell Pit Bull - In no uncertain terms, it is safe to say that Pit Bull mocks the Trump candidacy. Interview at Reuters . Feelthebern

I watched the debate last night and today heard some good news. More than 10 million viewers tuned in to watch the Democratic Debate last night and it was a substantial debate. So many of us are refreshed as we #feelthebern and many democrats and independents are desperately hoping that Bernie Sanders can pull out enough voters to win not only the democratic primary, but also the presidency. Unfortunately, the media is making even his smallest gains into seemingly much larger accomplishments than they actually are. Even with small strides and plenty of media coverage, most Americans are not ready for a president Sanders. Many political analysts have said that Sanders is not going to become our next president - for many reasons. A major consideration is that an extremist such as Sanders is not going to motivate enough people to get out and vote. Meanwhile, we will just have to wait and see what happens, but I, for one, tend to agree with the predictions. the Republican p...

Obama wept

A few days ago our President wept as he spoke of the massacre of children at Sandy Hook Elementary  in 2012. If you are one who speaks of this event in mockery, I feel sorry for you and because of you I feel even sorrier for our nation. For it is people like you who have caused the apathy in America. NO one is coming for your guns. However, below is the educated interpretation of the 2nd Amendment as interpreted by our Supreme Court. If you are one of the people who says that more laws will not keep guns away from criminals, I would like to remind you that most gun deaths and injuries occur as unjustifiable homicides and suicides. For the sake of argument , let's say the government is plotting to eventually take all guns away from us. Get real. If that happens, the military will win. Many of you think that our service men and women would not comply with these orders, but even if that were the case, the UN would be called upon to enforce the ne...

One War is One Too Many

I don't know who this young man is or where he is from, but when I look at this photo I just want to hug him and take him to his home - just snatch him right out of there. Opinions on war have never been more important than they are right now - during this American presidential election year. Mitt Romney has stated that :   "Ever since FDR we've had the capacity to be engaged in two conflicts at once and [President Obama] said no, we're going to cut that back to only one conflict," Clearly, more wars is not what the American people want. Clearly, war is not what other nations want. Clearly, President Obama is the safest choice. Please my American brothers and sisters, make sure you are registered to vote, and then exercise your right to do so. http://RegisterToVote.org

John McCain an Honest Man

Watching the Republican convention was almost unbearable until the arrival of John McCain, an honest man. Listening to his speech reminded me of what the Republican party once stood for - integrity, honesty, and compassion for all. I couldn't help but notice that every time McCain spoke of things the Republicans had done, he spoke in past tense. That's how I know he is still a man of integrity. He did not lie about things he may WISH the republicans were doing. He spoke of what they did in the past. He did not lie about President Obama. I don't agree with John McCain's military vision for America. I, for one, am tired of sacrificing the lives of our military troops. Let's face it, the best scenario they can hope for is to come home with emotional scars that will change their lives as well as the lives of their families. The worst case is that they don't come home at all. In between those two extremes we have those who come home without all the body p...

Thou Shalt Not Make Broad Generalizations

Earlier this week, Ari Fleisher was on Anderson Cooper's show on CNN. It was a fairly interesting exchange regarding current politics, but one of his comments has stuck with me so I decided to vent about it here. By no means is he the only person that has made broad generalization statements that mislead the masses, but his is the one on my mind today. Fleisher made the comment that President Obama didn't seem to like corporations. When I was a child, at some point I remember being presented lessons or tests with particular scenarios that were to teach us from making broad generalizations that in fact, were false. For instance, if they showed you a picture of a black dog, the caption would read... This is a dog. The dog is black. Therefore all dogs are black. You would answer true or false to the statement. The lesson is "thou shalt not make broad generalizations." I guess Fleisher missed that lesson, further proving that education and degrees d...

Character in a Presidential Candidate

I'm not so proud of many things I did as a young person, but I can honestly say that I never intentionally hurt anyone, physically or otherwise. Mitt Romney's "hijinks" (as he calls them) as a senior in his "prep" high school which involved holding a gay boy down and cutting his hair, seem to be more of a character issue to me. He had no thought at all about this young man's feelings. Indeed, he deemed himself to be more worthy  - else he would not have dared to force the boy into an unwanted haircut. He took control of someone without their permission. I find this unacceptable of the character that should be in a presidential candidate. He was a senior, not a ten year old boy who may not have known better. Equally as distressing as the incident itself, is that the school did absolutely nothing about it. There is also the issue of animal cruelty relating to Seamus, the family dog who was placed in his kennel (equipped with a windshield), and strap...

Supporting Gay Marriage Political Ploy

Surely everyone has heard the news by now... Political Ploy? Doesn't make sense! President Obama has become the first president in history to support same-sex marriage. Many are saying that supporting gay marriage is nothing more than a political ploy, but if that were the case, it is certainly one with a huge risk. While it's true that the majority of Americans support same-sex marriage, that majority may not play out across all states, and the state victories are the ones that elect the president. Therefore, this logic simply does not float. President Obama always supported civil unions with rights for gay partners, and I think this is just his way of taking a stand. This stand is doubly important in light of the vote in North Carolina which just banned gay marriage. When will Christians learn that they do NOT have the right to force their beliefs on all Americans? When will Christians learn that they do NOT have the right to punish those who go agains...

Executive Order on Abortion

What an interesting turn things have taken today regarding the debates on health care reform.  The President has offered to issue an Executive Order restricting abortion, but many Republicans are now stating "live" on TV, that Executive Orders are useless. Really? NO! Executive orders do have the full force of law AND, the courts have overturned only two executive orders. I am so tired of the lies. Speaking of abortion, am I the only one who sees the irony of this? How can you claim to honor the sanctity of life by opposing abortion, when you allow thousands of people who are already walking on this earth, to suffer and die - needlessly? Please explain. Furthermore, what type of future are we creating by insisting that those unwanted children continue to be born? Who will pay for their needs? Who or what type of adult Americans will they become once they have discovered the truth of their birth? Who can have a healthy self-esteem once they know that they w...

How Much do Bailout Beggars Make?

Lee Iacocca cut his salary to $1 a year when Chrysler was in trouble. The following statistics are for CEOs for the year 2007 as posted in April of 2007... view these statistics and more on the nation's top earners at WSJ GM: Rick Wagoner's $1,283,333 salary + perks : $10.19 million Ford: Alan Mulally's $666,667 salary + perks : $28.18 million Wachovia: G. Kennedy Thompson's $1 million salary + perks : 23.85 million Why would we want to bail out these people? Thank God the senate didn't pass the automaker bailout. Unfortunately, President Bush has indicated that he could tap into the initial $700 billion bailout and help them anyway. See NPR for more info. The defeat of the $14 billion bill by a 52-35 procedural vote late Thursday prompted lawmakers in both parties to call for the White House to tap into the $700 billion Wall Street bailout to help General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC, which have said they could run out of cash within weeks. Let's face it, whe...

Birth Certificate Not Fake

According to the AP the Supreme Court has refused to review the legitimacy of Obama's birth in the US. I just wonder why it took so long to get this issue off the map. The state of Hawaii previously concluded that there is no doubt that Obama was born there. A birth announcement has even been found in the Honolulu Advertiser. The birth certificate is not a fake. The nonpartisan Web site Factcheck.org examined the original document and said it does have a raised seal and the usual evidence of a genuine document. * Full Story

Jesus for President

I just read a pastor's blog post on the " Jesus for President " authors who are now on tour. No, they are not advocating a sign-in vote for Jesus. This goes much deeper than that... "This whole project is about the political imagination of what it means to follow after Jesus," Claiborne said. "The language of Jesus as Lord and savior is just as radical as it would be to say 'Jesus as our commander in chief' today." (from Cnn, see link below) Below is my reply (comment) to the pastor's blog post, which you can read here. I have quoted the sections I responded to. It seems to me you missed the point of the Jesus for President movement. I see it as a way to undo the damage done by those who have tried to hijack Christianity for the Republican party by focusing on 2 emotional issues, which is the real abomination. Inspiring people to vote with the heart of Jesus is not a mockery - it is truth. They are not advocating one party over the other...

Lyndon Johnson in 1954

Free Speech Attacked in 1954 Interesting bit of history that I wouldn't remember because I was born in 1954. Lyndon Johnson was rumored to have won his senate seat by fraudulent votes in 1948. This earned him the nickname of "Landslide Lyndon." Some things never change I guess. Who knew they were fighting over votes in 1948? During his run for re-election in 1954, he ran into some problems with anti-communist groups who resented his liberal agenda. This is what gave rise to forbidding politics in churches, although his main target was actually to stop nonprofit groups. Johnson had to stop these people from destroying his political future. Johnson inserted language into the IRS code that prohibited non-profits, including churches, from endorsing or opposing candidates for political office. Many people felt and still feel that this is a violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. Personally, I do not believe that political iss...

Abortion

The latest numbers show that only 19 out of 1000 women have abortions. The statistics on abortions includes those that take the French abortion pill RU 486, now more commonly known as mifepristone. To put this number into perspective, I needed to find the actual population of women in the US. As of the 2002 census, there were more than 141 million women in the US, a number that has certainly grown in the past six years. 19.4% of women ages 15 to 44 had abortions in 2005, the lowest number since 1974. The census doesn't break down the number of women in this particular age group, so I cannot offer further details. However, this decrease is certainly worth celebrating and hopefully, will no longer be a matter that people consider when selecting a president. Mind you, I am not saying it shouldn't be considered at all, but a candidate's position on abortion, should not be the only criteria used to select a president. For the record, I am pro-life, but I have a problem with t...

Presidential candidates on health care

There are many important issues facing our presidential candidates. One of my top issues is their position on health care in the US. I am in favor of a universal health care plan deserving of the citizens of the richest nation on earth. So far, Chris Dodd (D) has the best health care plan IMO. The following is from his website ... ChrisDodd.com * The Dodd plan will create a health insurance marketplace called Universal HealthMart that is based on, and parallel to, the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan (FEHBP). * Individuals and businesses will contribute to Universal HealthMart based on their ability to pay. * Coverage will be portable -- insurance purchased in Universal HealthMart will follow individuals. My comment: Pefect. Simple. Easy to implement because it already exists in every state in the US for Federal employees. As for the other Democratic candidates: Biden (D) wants to insure everyone 18 and under which is not acceptable. Hillary Clinton (D) isn't sure how she...

President Bush Job Rating

So glad to see that America is waking up and smelling the decay of our government and freedoms. In a recent poll, President Bush's job rating approval hit a new low at just 29 percent. That's no surprise, everybody is always bashing Bush, which is sad. The good news is that people are starting to notice the performance of the Democratic Congress. Only 23 percent of pollees approve of the job the democratic congress is doing. "Also, 68 percent of Americans think the country is on the wrong track, while just 19 percent say it's on the right track. That's the lowest number in 15 years."
