Missing the Farm

Have you ever dreamed of the country life? You know, a farm, lots of land, chickens, goats, etc. It's a nice life. I lived it for about five years.

Sometimes I miss the farm.

One of the cool and sometimes not so cool, things about living miles away from town, was that we always had a new supply of pets. People just love to dump their unwanted pets on country roads. We usually found homes for most of the dogs, but we kept almost all of the cats. We already had three dogs, so keeping more just wasn't practical.

I had about two dozen cats and kittens at one point, all of whom came running to walk with me down the lane to the mailbox every day. It was such fun. We built a large deck out back and they all ate happily... their own private picnic... as if the deck was built just for them.

I am rambling on about this because I read a post over at "Life On a Southern Farm" which brought back all the memories. It's a wonderful post, complete with photos of the hatching chicks, the sick cow, and... well just go see. It's a great read.

  1. Georgia farm woman's blog provides such vivid pictures and stories of farm life that from the very first visit I was hooked.

And yes to your question. I have literally dreamed of life on a farm most of my life ever since I was a child. In fact, I had a reoccurring dream that included a cow showing up in my room. She eventually would jump out the window and run across a large pasture outside my window. The only problem is I lived no where near a pasture or farm.

My love for the hills, trees and animals lives within me even though I spend most of the year in the city, far away from the places and things I love most. I love the land, the grass, the dirt and all the smells that come with it. I even welcome the isolation that comes with living in these wide open far away places.

  2. Yes, farm life is really wonderful. You are close to nature and you eat all the fresh meat, poultry products and vegetables straight out of the farm. Life is easier and more leisurely too. How I love to live my life in a farm. Thanks for the nostalgic post. God bless you always.

Support Term Limits for Supreme Court Justices

The following is a letter I have sent through automation to write my Representatives encouraging them to support term limits for Supreme Court Justices. Feel free to copy and paste the following letter that I rewrote from the previously formatted letter that will appear in the link provided at the bottom of this article. Or, use their letter. Or, better yet, rewrite it for yourself as I have done.  When you go to the link, your representatives will automatically appear when you enter your address.  This is such a simple way to contact your representatives in Washington, D.C.  Topic - government reform or judicial Letter: Thank you for your service to our country as a representative of the people. Integrity still matters to most people. Unfortunately, we are living in an era where we can no longer depend on one's conscience to dictate or control individual actions. I, and the majority of Americans, have lost faith in the Supreme Court’s ability to act as a neutral arbiter ...

My Only True Vice Was Smoking

If you know me well, you know these things about me... I don't drink I don't do drugs I don't gamble I don't swear I don't sleep around I don't even buy lottery tickets My only true vice has been smoking cigarettes. And now I don't do that. I have been without a cigarette for a whole week. You may think that isn't long enough for me to say that I have truly quit, but I think it's a fair statement considering the circumstances. How did I quit? Our wonderful government decided to add a flame retardant to the cigarette papers, and I am allergic to it. How nice of them. I'm betting that more than 99% of  smokers have NOT caused any forest fires because if they had, there would be fires constantly burning ALL of the time all over this land and we would not be able to keep them down. So, let's insert an ingredient that is toxic and deadly to the smoker, so we can stop all of those non-existent fires. Some say the ingredien...
