Supporting Gay Marriage Political Ploy

Surely everyone has heard the news by now...
Political Ploy? Doesn't make sense!

President Obama has become the first president in history to support same-sex marriage.

Many are saying that supporting gay marriage is nothing more than a political ploy, but if that were the case, it is certainly one with a huge risk.

While it's true that the majority of Americans support same-sex marriage, that majority may not play out across all states, and the state victories are the ones that elect the president.

Therefore, this logic simply does not float.

President Obama always supported civil unions with rights for gay partners, and I think this is just his way of taking a stand. This stand is doubly important in light of the vote in North Carolina which just banned gay marriage.

  1. When will Christians learn that they do NOT have the right to force their beliefs on all Americans?
  2. When will Christians learn that they do NOT have the right to punish those who go against their beliefs?

I'm very proud to be an American today, and I'm very proud of President Obama for defending basic human rights of all Americans.

  1. Absolutely! Although I agree with his stance, I'm not sure if it was in his best interest to be outspoken about it from a getting re-elected standpoint. Anyone who claims he only said this to get re-election isn't paying attention.

  2. I am a Christian and I agree with your post. It is not up to us to judge anyone or force our beliefs on them. That is not what God would do or want us to do. The bible tells us that no sin is greater than another. It also tells us that we have ALL sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Not some of us...ALL of us. We are all sinners and God does not look at sin by degree. We are all children of God. In the US, we have freedom of religion. That doesn't mean that we Christians have the freedom to force our religion on others, it means that all of us have the freedom to follow any religion we want. If more Christians would respond with love and understanding instead of judgement and nastiness, the world would be a better place.

As for whether it was a political ploy or not, I, personally, do not think so.

    Great post.

  3. I agree with you. One friend, who is not an Obama supporter, said she thought is was a lame platform on which to start his re-election policy. She does agree with gay marriage, but thinks it was a mistake to base a campaign on.

I think she may be right even though I think Obama is probably better than anyone else running. This will be a crazy and vicious election year. Sally

  5. I agree Joyce! Too many people are never paying attention apparently.

You are so right Roxanne. Not one of us is righteous enough to throw stones.

Sally, I'm afraid you're right too. It looks like the forecast calls for stormy weather over politics this year.

    Ditto Sim.

Thanks for all your comments. I was worried people were going to "attack" my view. Whew. What a relief!

Tampon Tim

So now they're calling him "tampon tim."  Meanwhile, we're loving the publicity showcasing the magnificence that is Tim Walz.  Gov. Tim Walz’s administration ensured that menstruation products are provided freely in Minnesota's public school bathrooms.  "This move is crucial for students who might experience their first periods unexpectedly or who cannot afford products at home. According to a 2019 study by Plan International USA, 1 in 5 girls in the U.S. has missed school because of lack of access to menstrual products." Walz also removed the tampon tax in Minnesota, proudly making it one of the few states to acknowledge the absurdity of taxing our essential health products. These are the kinds of actions that prove a politician cares about his or her constituents, and is concerned about the poorest among them.  Bravo! #HarrisWalz2024  https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/...

Ghost Proof Your Home

Halloween is around the corner and October in general is a month when strange happenings occur. I hear many tales of unexplained phenomena such as lights going on and off, knocks on the door when no one is there and sometimes just a "feeling" that someone is watching you. Is there any particular reason that spirits are more active in October? None that I can think of, except that it has been believed to be this way for centuries. However, those who know more about the cosmos, the star alignments and geomagnetic pulls may have some valid reasons why October is the bewitching month. Ghostly superstitions and beliefs exist in all cultures, and today I found a nice image that shows ways to ghost proof your home. The traditions come from many different cultures and are easy to do, except for the Kaballah thing. Click on the image to view it enlarged at the original source. Support Term Limits for Supreme Court Justices

The following is a letter I have sent through automation to write my Representatives encouraging them to support term limits for Supreme Court Justices. Feel free to copy and paste the following letter that I rewrote from the previously formatted letter that will appear in the link provided at the bottom of this article. Or, use their letter. Or, better yet, rewrite it for yourself as I have done.  When you go to the link, your representatives will automatically appear when you enter your address.  This is such a simple way to contact your representatives in Washington, D.C.  Topic - government reform or judicial Letter: Thank you for your service to our country as a representative of the people. Integrity still matters to most people. Unfortunately, we are living in an era where we can no longer depend on one's conscience to dictate or control individual actions. I, and the majority of Americans, have lost faith in the Supreme Court’s ability to act as a neutral arbiter ...
